>> we'll continue this coverage of the breaking news just south of milwaukee as candy just mentioned, there has been a shooting at a temple in the community called oak creek. up to four people have been shot. police on the scene there. and our affiliate wtmj has been filling us in as to what's going on. the actual shooting itself took place at 10:40 a.m. central time inside the temple. the gunman at this time is still believed to be on the loose and potentially inside, potentially having hostages as well, according to affiliate wtmj. you are looking at aerials. most of this is taped. we don't want to give away any sort of police positions as this is still a fluid situation that we're covering just south of milwaukee. i want to bring in deb feyerick out of our new york bureau who's been following this developing story. deb, what can you add? >> reporter: what we do know is we know that nursing supervisors at a local hospital, columbia st. mary's hospital, they are on standby. they're waiting for what they believe are victims to arrive. we're hearing as many as 8 to 20 victim

just judging by the police activity outside this sikh temple which is again south of milwaukee they are not taking cover. we are not seeing, you know, snipers at the ready assisting the s.w.a.t. team that is we understand inside the temple right now. so one would sort of suspect by looking at the outside of the temple and the activity going on there isn't a sense of urgency and they may feel as though there is just one shooter. that shooter is now down according to the chief of police. we are also getting one other detail here. one police officer has reportedly been shot, is being treated, expected to survive. there is no total victim count. two at the hospital right now that we know of. one in critical condition. we don't know and don't have confirmed as you point out, are rice, any other suspects who may be inside but they are clearly going through room by room trying to rescue those who mae be hiding potential victim there's. but just the sense here from watching the outside is they may feel as though they have this under control and that this may be a lone gunman. harris? >> you kno

purchased recently in the milwaukee area. so, again, two more small pieces but nothing that gives us a clear idea of what any kind of motivation there might have been behind this attack. right now we're just waiting to hear from the city's police chief and possibly some other oec officials about what was going on. last night i watched very closely as federal, state, and local authorities converged on the house where page lived. and at that house they were approaching it as if there might still be somebody inside. they were prepared for anything, also prepared if there might have been some explosives inside. but they were able to get inside without any kind of incident. after their sf, they came out with a couple boxes of materials. we don't know what was in those boxes. perhaps the authorities will be able to share also what kind of evidence they're gathering against him. but right now the motivation behind this, the thing that everybody is asking, why would he do this? he lived about five miles away from this temple. he had no connection that we know of to anyone at the temple. why he

. that 911 call came in 10:25 a.m. local time. the suburb we are talking about, milwaukee. suburb of milwaukee called oak creek. >> the caller said at the time that one gunman had entered the temple and started shooting multiple people at that point were shot. people were trained side we presume that they are still trapped inside. many of them may well be women and children gathering before a larger gathering later on in the morning. a short time ago police gave us an update, telling us that police officer engaged with the gunman that was outside. that police officer was shot several times. 's currently being treated at a local hospital but he managed to get off another shots to that gunman and kill him, or at least put him down. that gunman is presumed dead outside the temple. at this point what we still don't know is if there is another shooter inside that temple. police tactical teams are inside trying to make sweeps and contain this situation. the word that the police say is that they had the situation contained. that doesn't mean that it's cleared or deemed safe. three people, a

unidentified gunman killed four people inside the temple near milwaukee shooting two more outside. the gunman then died in the shootout with a police officer. tonight that police officer is in intensive care at a milwaukee area hospital. we've got local reactions from the community, but let's first begin with randall pinkston with reports. >> reporter: police are blocking the temple outside milwaukee, wisconsin, after a gunman allegedly killed at least six people. and investigators, they say that the suspect will also be dead. killed in a shootout with police. >> our officer is a 20-year veteran, ambushed, shot multiple times. another officer on scene, they were engaged by the suspect and our officer did engage in that individual and that individual is deceased. >> reporter: police received the first 911 calls around 10:30 in oak creek. several law enforcement agencies, including the fbi respond. >> we're treating this as a domestic terrorist type incident. therefore the fbi has the resources needed to help investigate that. >> after the shoot off, four bodies were inside the temple, t

pistol used in the attack from this milwaukee area gun shop on july 28 and picked it up on july 30, just a week before the shooting. and whatever the motive, investigators strongly believe page acted alone. yet another case of a lone wolf gunman, bob. >> schieffer: okay, bob. one of the victims was a leader of the sikh temple, a man who came to this country with almost nothing and built his own version of the american dream. ben tracy now with that part of the story. >> reporter: sathpaul kalecka and other women were cooking inside the temple's kitchen when the shooting began sunday. >> i was just screaming, screaming. >> reporter: she was worried about her husband satwant, the 65-year-old president of the temple. he just started his morning prayers in the other room. >> reporter: as they huddled in the pantry, she made several quick calls to her son amardeep. what did your mom tell you? >> there's a gunman firing on us. but later there was another phone call saying "where's everybody? nobody's coming to help us." then the next one was "how's your father doing? where's your father?
